Dr. Crystal M. Edwards is the visionary behind the innovative non-profit organization, Empowering Single Moms, Inc. An educator committed to the goal of self-sufficiency for Single Mothers, Edwards works to elevate their status as well as to improve the lives of their children and future generations. The organization's mission is to educate, house and restore Single Mothers receiving federal assistance by conducting self-sufficiency training, conflict resolution and educational programs.
Through financial, educational and personal empowerment, Edwards believes that the lives of Single Mothers can be transformed. Edwards was a Single Mom and has an inspiring testimony. She writes and teaches about her story, letting passion guide her steps. That passion is coupled with a doctorate degree in education leadership and 18 years of experience, impacting the lives of our youth.
As a researcher, author, power speaker and education reformer, Edwards is a creative-thinker poised to develop lasting solutions for Single Mothers, the community and youth.
Edwards serves as a principal in one of the largest, urban school districts. Dr. Edwards is an active board member of the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, Temple University Black Alumni Association and Philadelphia Outward Bound School.
In addition, Dr. Edwards is a wife, mother and member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Executive director, ayoka blandford, MA
Ayoka Blandford is a writer and communications professional with more than 20 years of experience in public relations, strategic planning and branding.
The focus of Blandford's professional experience is strategic communications and content creation. She is passionate about mission-driven organizations, particularly those that focus on education, fine arts, policy and racial disparities. Known as the "word geek" Blandford has been a content provider for websites, collateral material, press materials and social media spaces.
Understanding the importance of advocacy and positioning, she has developed executive communications and collaborated with lobbyists and policy directors to raise awareness about priority issues. Blandford has also collaborated with many talented graphic designers and photographers to incorporate visual storytelling into brand management.
Blandford is a Single Mother of two, poet, novelist and an avid reader.
